Health Notice
Effective date: [DATA DE VIGÊNCIA]
IMPORTANT: read before you practice
Ashtamapa is educational content. It does not replace a doctor, physiotherapist or a yoga teacher who works with you in person. The app does not diagnose, prescribe treatment or assess your body.
1. Get checked before you start
Talk to a doctor or physiotherapist before you start if you:
- have any health condition or chronic illness, or are under treatment;
- are pregnant, may be pregnant or have recently given birth;
- have high blood pressure or another heart or circulation problem;
- have glaucoma or another eye condition (inversions and head-down poses can raise eye pressure);
- have back or neck problems, such as a herniated or bulging disc, sciatica, spinal surgery or pain spreading into an arm or leg;
- have had a recent injury, fracture or surgery;
- have osteoporosis, joint hypermobility, vertigo, frequent dizziness or fainting;
- are returning to exercise after a long break.
Take the pose cards to your appointment and ask which poses are right for you.
2. Stop immediately and get medical help if you feel
- pain going down your leg with tingling or weakness;
- numbness in the groin or genital area (inner thighs, between the legs);
- changes in bladder or bowel control (difficulty or loss of control);
- chest pain;
- unusual shortness of breath;
- severe dizziness, blacking out or feeling faint.
Numbness in the groin or genital area, or loss of bladder or bowel control, can be an emergency. Go to an emergency department right away.
3. Come out of the pose if
- the pain is sharp, stabbing or "electric";
- the pain gets worse with each repetition;
- you need to hold your breath to do it;
- something feels wrong. If in doubt, come out of the pose calmly and rest.
4. About pain and mobility adjustments
- The app suggests variations based on what you report about pain and mobility.
- These suggestions are automatic and general. They do not know your history, your test results or what a professional would see in person.
- If the app's suggestion differs from your doctor's or physiotherapist's advice, follow the professional.
5. About Ashtanga
Ashtanga can be intense: continuous sequences, strength poses, twists, deep bends and inversions. Start at the most basic level. Use variations. Do not force range of motion. Breathe comfortably. Progress in yoga is measured in weeks and months, not in a single session.
6. Your responsibility
By using Ashtamapa, you confirm that you:
- have read this notice;
- will practice at your own pace, within your limits;
- will seek professional advice when this notice says so;
- understand that you decide what to do in each practice.
This notice does not remove any rights that consumer law gives you.
